Alumni Spotlight: Caitlin Atkinson-Tomlin – Auburn University Athletics

It’s Alumni Week for Auburn gymnastics and we’re going to feature alums throughout the week.
Today’s feature is Caitlin Atkinson-Tomlin! The 2016 Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Year finished her time on the Plains as an eight-time All-American and multiple All-SEC performer.
Caitlin was a major contributor to Auburn’s run to the 2015 NCAA Super Six, helping the Tigers break many team records that season. In addition, she guided Auburn to it’s first win over Alabama in 40+ years in 2016 as well as helping the team win its first-ever NCAA Regional title.
Years: 2013-16
Major: Fitness, Conditioning, and Performance (Auburn)
Physical Therapist Assistant (EFSC)
Occupation: Physical Therapist Assistant
Why did you choose your profession?
“I chose physical therapy because I love helping patients feel better, heal, and return to what they love. Getting my patients to be able to return to sport, play with their grandchildren, return to work, and enjoy life without limitations drives me to be the best therapist for them.”
How did Auburn prepare you to be successful away from the Plains?
“Auburn taught me how to work hard and earn what I deserve in life. Auburn gave me the confidence to be my true self. Without Auburn I would not have been able to further my self-confidence, determination, and time management. Auburn taught me the importance of community and having people around me that support me unconditionally.”
What advice do you have for current and future gymnasts?
“Enjoy every single moment. Do not get caught up in the bad days or in social media, but rather focus on developing yourself and who you (not others) want to be outside of gymnastics. Develop yourself outside of your sport. Work hard and focus on your education for a meaningful career because when college gymnastics is over your education and career will be what you use moving forward. Education is just as important (or more) than athletics.”
What does Auburn Family mean to you?
“Auburn family means community, support, and friendships. I love the community it brings when seeing another individual with an Auburn tee on and you instantly know ‘this person is a part of my community.’ The Auburn Family means feeling at home.”
