Caprock Academy was recently honored as one of the best schools by Niche, a company that grades schools via a rubric and ranks them nationally. Caprock was graded the top elementary and high school in Mesa County and was in the top 18.7% of charter schools in the nation.

The U.S. News and World Report has released its annual rankings of high schools, with schools across western Colorado ranking highly among statewide schools.

The rankings were determined by a college readiness index, a college curriculum breadth index, state assessment proficiency and performance, and graduation rate.

Caprock Academy was the highest ranking school in Mesa County, ranked as the 63rd best high school in Colorado. Caprock was also recognized as the No. 1 Colorado Charter School Institute (CSI) high school.

“We are thrilled to once again be recognized by U.S. News & World Report,” said Caprock Interim Head of School Matt Diers in a statement from the school. “These rankings are a testament to the hard work of our students, the dedication of our faculty and staff, and the continual support from our community. This achievement motivates us to keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible in education.”

The only other Mesa County high school to crack the top 100 of the statewide rankings was Palisade High School, which was ranked 99th. The next highest ranked school in the county was Fruita Monument (No. 110).

Other schools across western Colorado to place in the top 100 schools in the state were Aspen (12th), Telluride (30th), Basalt (42nd), Ridgway (44th), Durango (59th), Roaring Fork (62nd), Glenwood Springs (67th), Meeker (80th) and Delta (95th).

D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School in Denver ranked No. 1 in the state and 59th nationwide. It was the only Colorado high school to rank in the top 100 nationally.
