Steven Ashworth Named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week – Utah State University Athletics



LOGAN, Utah – Utah State junior guard Steven Ashworth has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, March 5. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
The native of Alpine, Utah, helped Utah State close out its regular season on a five-game winning streak as the Aggies went 2-0 last week with a 91-66 road win at UNLV and 86-73 home victory against Boise State.
Against the Runnin’ Rebels, Ashworth recorded 27 points, seven assists, three steals and two rebounds.
Against the Broncos, Ashworth logged 19 points, eight assists, four rebounds, four steals and zero turnovers. 
For the week, Ashworth averaged 23.0 points, 7.5 assists, 3.5 steals and 3.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 53.3 percent (16-of-30) from the field, 50.0 percent (8-of-16) from deep and 85.7 percent (6-of-7) at the free throw line.

Utah State now travels to take part in the 2023 Mountain West Championships at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The third-seeded Aggies will play the first-round winner of sixth-seeded New Mexico and 11th-seeded Wyoming on Thursday, March 9, at 9:30 p.m. (MT).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL – Junior guard Tamiah Robinson (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) averaged 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game last week as Utah State concluded its regular season with a 78-65 home loss to San José State and a 66-58 loss to Boise State in the opening round of the 2023 Mountain West Basketball Championships. Against the Spartans, Robinson scored 14 points and added four rebounds. Against the Broncos, she scored 20 points and added four rebounds, three assists and three steals. For the week, Robinson shot 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from the field, 40.0 percent (4-of-10) from three-point range and 100.0 percent (4-of-4) from the free throw line.


GYMNASTICS – Senior Sofi Sullivan (Manhattan Beach, California) tied for first on beam with a 9.925, which is tied for ninth all-time in school history, as Utah State placed second with a 194.600 in a home tri meet against Alaska and Nebraska last weekend.
