Woodard Announces 2024 Schedule – Charlotte Athletics

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte 49ers baseball head coach Robert Woodard announced his team’s 2024 schedule on Monday afternoon (Nov. 20), featuring 31 games on campus at Hayes Stadium and three at minor league ballparks.
“We couldn’t be more excited to get ready to kick off our 2024 season,” Woodard said. “We’re looking to shatter attendance records here at The Hayes with your help. Four of our first five non-conference weekends are at home against top-100 RPI opponents from last year. From there we head into a rigorous conference schedule in The American – year one for us, which we’re excited about and have some great matchups. We have two signature games in the area as well, playing Davidson on March 19 at Atrium Health Ballpark against Davidson and then playing in Uptown at Truist Field on May 7 against a strong Clemson team.”
HIGH-POWERED START
Charlotte opens the season with four home weekends out of the first five weeks of the season, with two of those series coming against teams that competed in last year’s postseason. Old Metro Conference rivals Virginia Tech make their first trip to Charlotte in over 10 years to begin the season on Feb. 16-18. Then West Virginia makes its second trip to the Queen City in three years for the second weekend before the Niners hit to road to play former Conference USA rival and most-played opponent Old Dominion. Maryland then visits town the following weekend (March 8-10) before the non-conference slate wraps up with a home series against UNCW the next weekend. Midweek games during the non-conference weekends portion of the schedule include Davidson (Feb. 20 and March 19), Wofford (Feb. 27), Western Carolina (March 5), Winthrop (March 12), and Gardner-Webb (March 20).
RETURN TO K-TOWN
The Niners will be playing in Atrium Health Ballpark for the fourth consecutive season with the second matchup against Davidson on March 19. CLT has played in the 2022 Minor League Ballpark of the Year each of the first three seasons the park has been open and has a 2-1 record in the stadium and 16 total wins in Kannapolis throughout the program’s history.
WELCOME TO THE AMERICAN
Charlotte begins play in the American Athletic Conference on the road on March 22 at familiar foe Florida Atlantic. Home conference play starts the next weekend with South Florida to finish out the month of March (March 28-30). Other American foes that will visit The Hayes this season include Memphis (April 19-21), Rice (May 3-5), and Tulane (May 16-18), while the Niners will travel to UTSA (April 5-7), East Carolina (April 12-14), UAB (April 26-28), and Wichita State (May 10-12). The American Athletic Conference Championships will be held at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Florida from May 21-26.
A NEW MINOR-LEAGUE EXPERIENCE
One of CLT’s three games in minor league ballparks this season is a new park for the 49ers at SEGRA Stadium in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The home of 2023 First Team All-American Cam Fisher and the Fayetteville Woodpeckers will play host to the Niners and Campbell on April 2. Charlotte and Campbell have played in minor league parks each of the last three meetings, with a pair in 2007 at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium and the most recent outing at Atrium Health Ballpark – both in Kannapolis.
MORE MIDWEEKS
The Green and White will host North Carolina A&T on April 9 in between the road series at UTSA and ECU before three straight midweek games on the road. CLT will head back to last season’s regional site to play the first of two against Clemson on April 16. Then it’s just across the state line at Winthrop on April 23 before finishing the month out on the 30th at North Carolina. Only two midweeks follow in May, with the Niners playing Clemson (May 7) and UNC Asheville (May 14).
A TUSSLE AT TRUIST
Charlotte and Clemson will meet for a second time this spring in the heart of the Queen City when the two sides battle at Truist Field on May 7. The two sides have played in Uptown once before, back in 2019 – the final time Charlotte played at BB&T Ballpark before it was renamed to the current Truist Field.
NCAA TOURNAMENT TEAMS
A total of eight teams on the slate made the 2023 NCAA Tournament, accounting for 19 of the Niners’ scheduled games. Clemson was a regional host last year while West Virginia, Maryland, UNCW, Campbell, East Carolina, North Carolina, and Tulane all reached the postseason as well.
